David is an accomplished Systems & Safety Assurance Manager with over 25 years' experience in the regulated railway sector including both heavy and light rail and the critical-to-safety engineering sectors. Originally based in the UK, David established the railway system safety and safety management systems consultancy, Lydgett Ltd, in 2005. After moving to Sydney, Australia in 2012, David founded Australian-registered CityZens Pty Ltd in 2015 using the same business model as Lydgett Ltd. Over the past 15 years, David has helped foster the growth of his business to several countries. As a technical Safety Assessment Director, David offers a demonstrable track record in: Safety Assessment, Safety case development, System Assurance along the EN50126 ‘V’ lifecycle, Systems Engineering, ETCS and CBTC, Accident Investigation, Occupational Health and Safety Management, Site & System Safety audits and Operational Management.

Trevor McBain

Lead Safety Assessor, Software Assurance SME, ISA

Trevor has over 30 years' experience in systems engineering and systems/software assurance relating mainly to safety-critical projects and installations gained initially in the UK nuclear industry, which has enabled application of the most rigorous safety and systems/software assurance principles and processes in other industries, including rail transportation. Trevor’s experience spans entire project lifecycles on computer-based instrumentation, control systems, signalling systems (CBTC/ETCS) and information technology specialising in systems safety, software quality and safety assurance. This includes auditing, specification and design to commissioning of hardware and software for high integrity, mission critical applications, in compliance with International and European Standards/Regulations.

Pauline Anderson

Pauline is an accomplished systems safety assurance practitioner with over 10 years' experience in the Australian railway sector including both heavy and metro rail. Pauline offers a demonstrable track record in: Safety Assessment, Safety case development, System Assurance along the EN50126 ‘V’ lifecycle, Systems Engineering requirements elicitation and V&V. Prior to rail safety assurance, Pauline was involved in hazardous substances enforcement, fire life safety design and radiological safety assessment.

Mira has over 13 years experience in undertaking safety assurance activities for various rail projects in Singapore and Australia, which includes metro system, suburban rail, freight and light rail. She has also been involved in Independent Safety Reviews/ Assessments for a number projects including Sydney Metro Northwest, Canberra Light Rail, More Trains More Services 2018 Timetable program and Automated People Mover (APM) for several international airports.

Connie offers a demonstrable track record in: Independent Safety Assessment, Safety case development, System Assurance along the EN50126& 50128‘V’ lifecycle, Human Factors integration, RAMS, ETCS and CBTC, audits and Asset Management.

Gillian Somerville

Human Factors SME, ISA 

Auckland, New Zealand

Gillian is a highly experienced Human Factors Consultant with over 20 years’ experience in the integration of human factors requirements within complex transport and infrastructure projects. She has worked on projects across the UK for Network Rail, London Underground, Tubelines; she developed the Safety Management System manual for the RailCorp’s Customer Services Section; and two ETCS L2 projects in Queensland. Most recently she was ISA on the Sydney Growth Trains and New Intercity Fleet Trains projects in NSW. She was Human Factors Lead on the new Dubbo Maintenance Facility as part of the WSP/CPB design team, and is currently Human Factors Lead on the Digital Systems Project leading the human factors work for the traffic management and trackside subsystems.

Ahmad ALTamimi

Ahmad has direct experience within the rail industry, working on "design & build" / "rail upgrade" projects, with positions in system assurance, hazard management, verification & validation, RAMS and as a lead auditor within Australia, Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Saudi. He has successfully worked on a number of large rail projects; including Deep Underground Stations, Elevated Stations, At-Grade Stations, Viaducts Civil infrastructure, Tunnels (NATM, C&C), light rail transit system (trams) / Metro, Rail Operation Centre (ROC) and Automatic Train Protections (ETCS) projects in Dubai / Sydney and "ATP (ETCS & DIVA)" / "Automatic Train Operation (ATO) Driverless Train for heavy rail (AutoHaul™)" in Western Australia which includes "Driver Assist (DA)" / "Electronic Controlled Pneumatic (ECP) Braking" systems.

Philip Ward

Rolling Stock SME, ETCS Onboard SME, ISA

Philip specialises in the integration of systems into the rail system as a whole having an in-depth knowledge and understanding of the complexity faced by the modern railway. He has significant experience in the design and approval of rolling stock, and in the design and approval of ETCS and CBTC signalling systems both on board and wayside. He has over 20 years experience in the regulated railway sector including both heavy and light rail and the critical-to-safety engineering sectors.

David Nery, Ph.D

Systems Safety Assurance SME, Human Factors SME, ISA

David has 30 years of consulting experience in Human Factors (HF) and Safety Engineering research and practice within the safety critical industry sector with a particular focus on the rail and defence industries. Academic qualifications include an Honours Degree in Psychology with a focus on human error, task analysis and workload analysis. He also has a Masters Degree in Human Factors Engineering from the University of London (UK) and he is completing his PhD in Engineering from the University of Cambridge (UK) in June 2021. David has worked as Lead HF Engineer on a number of rail (e.g. Sydney Metro – Western Sydney Airport), defence (e.g. Thales – Hawkei), energy (Chiyoda Engineering – Japan & SBM Offshore – Monaco) and manufacturing (Air International/Mitsubishi) projects. David has also held a number of HF assurance roles including Lead HF ISA on a number of rail (e.g. NIF/SGT rollingstock, Digital Systems Project and Regional Rail Project) and defence projects (e.g. Future Submarine Project).Other roles have included Lecturer in Ergonomics/Safety Engineering (UniSA), visiting lecturer at UCL University of London (M.Sc. Ergonomics Program) and HF/Safety Engineering court expert witness in over 150 cases that have involved fatalities and serious injuries. Safety engineering experience also includes being National Product Safety Authority on Naval projects (e.g. Collins Submarine Upgrades & Air Warfare Destroyer Projects) and safety assurance on operational readiness/safety assurance in rail projects.

Jorge Lopez

ETCS Trackside and Onboard SME, ISA

Jorge has more than 12 years of experience in the development and implementation of advanced rail systems, typically ERTMS / ETCS and CBTC. This experience has been acquired on international projects (Spain, Canada, Australia, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, Mexico, etc.) for high-speed, interurban and urban operations; signalling suppliers, infrastructure managers and operators. Jorge's mixed experience allows him to operate in technical and management positions over the entire life cycle of a railway project or program.
